UPDATED:
The Embleton Mountain wildfire near Sun Peaks has grown modestly today, now at 466 hectares.
That’s an increase from 290 hectares at the start of the day.
There are 132 properties that remain on evacuation order in Whitecroft. The Mountain Resort Municipality of Sun Peaks remains on evacuation alert to the fire’s northeast, and to the west, 170 properties in the area around Heffley Lake are also on alert.
Sun Peaks Resort says it will remain closed tomorrow for non-residents. It says its golf course will be open for local residents to walk and play nine holes, and Masa’s Bar and Grill will be open for locals as well.
“We will update the operational situation again on Tuesday afternoon as more information becomes available. Thanks to everyone for the support, patience, and understanding thus far,” the resort says in an online update.
Heffley-Louis Creek Road also remains closed just west of Whitecroft because of the forest fire. Only full time residents who aren’t on evacuation order will be allowed to travel east of that roadblock.
