The Flat Lake wildfire, near 100 Mile House, is now classified as under control, with no growth seen over the past several days.
The fire was sparked by lightning on July 8, southwest of 100 Mile House and west of Flat Lake. Since then, it has burned an estimated 742 square kilometres of land – 74,194 hectares – between 70 Mile House and Moose Valley Provincial Park.
The BC Wildfire Service says firefighters are continuing to mop up the Flat Lake fire, with helicopters bucketing hot spots where and when required.
“An infrared scan occurred on northern perimeter of the wildfire up to 50 feet to identify hot spots,” the Wildfire Service said. “Firefighters will prioritize the results today by using direct attack methods to extinguish hot spots.”
“Crews are continuing to demobilize gear including pumps and hoses in secured areas now that there is minimal fire activity.”
Both the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and the Cariboo Regional District have rescinded all evacuation orders and alerts that were issued due to this fire.
“Structural protection personnel will begin to demobilize structure protection apparatuses on the wildfire today,” the BCWS added.
As of Sunday, August 29, there were 164 firefighters and 26 pieces of heavy equipment attached to this fire.
