The Little Shuswap Lake Indian Band says it has been notified of a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 in the community, located near Chase, east of Kamloops.
“There is no need to panic,” read a statement from the Skwlax Wellness Centre. “The LSLIB’s Emergency Operations Centre is activated as is working closely with the Interior Health Authority and the First Nations Health Authority to address the outbreak.”
It says contact tracing is underway and a number of community members are being tested and monitored for symptoms.
People who have been in contact with a confirmed case will be contacted by public health teams. Those with symptoms will be sent for testing, while those without symptoms will have to self-isolate to prevent spreading the virus further.
“With COVID-19 cases on the rise across the province, now is not the time to let our guard down,” the statement added.
The LSLIB says people can get tested at the Chase Health Clinic, located at 825 Thompson Avenue, noting that test results usually come back within 24 to 48 hours.
